11A National Pie Week 4th – 10th March
National pie week was started by Jus-Rol in 2007, and it takes place every year on the first full week of March and lasts 7 days. As a fully-fledged nation of pie lovers, it’s a great way to bring awareness to a nation’s favourite and get all of the family involved. In order to celebrate national pie week, Restaurant 11A, on Forehill, prepared an exciting menu of pies, both sweet and savoury.
11A’s fantastically creative Head Chef wanted to involve the wonderful local Ely community, and so asked the people of Ely to suggest a delicious pie filling with the chance to win a pie and drink for 2 for whoever suggested the most delicious sounding filling! It was an extremely tough decision with well over 50 delicious fillings suggested to us from the classics such as Steak & Kidney, Lamb & Mint and Apple to slightly more exotic sounding pies such as Beef and Marmite, Wild boar and chorizo and even a fish and chips variant! However, eventually, Rachel Burgess was crowned the winner with her suggestion of Chicken & Chorizo Pie in tomato sauce with a parmesan crust which head Chef Robert will certainly add to his portfolio of delicious pies for future use. Thank you Rachel!
At 11a the team is always looking to be dynamic and offer new and exciting events to the community of Ely. So much so, that they have recently launched their monthly fish night and grill night events taking place on every first and third Thursday of the month, not forgetting their Jazz Sundays, where customers get to enjoy an exquisite performance from Ely’s very own Band of Hope with their Sunday Roast or Afternoon Tea.
Last month they ran their Daffodil Coffee Mornings, where for every customer enjoying coffee & cake, they donated a pound to Macmillan Cancer Support. Thanks to everyone who supported. It was such a success, they are going to do it again so, throughout March, 11A will be running this same offer. Coffee with Tea or Coffee for £4, with a pound from every sale going to Macmillan cancer support. So, if you haven’t visited yet, get down to 11A bag yourself a lovely cuppa and cake and support their fundraising for Macmillan. It’s another wonderful place in Ely to enjoy good food and drink in elegant surroundings.
